Together we will not only help this city but we will make a forever impact on individual's lives.
Although the focus of the news and thoughts of most people have moved on, the people of West, Texas will remember April 17, 2013 for a very long time.
Disaster can affect any community, be it at home or on the other side of the world. If you have ever experienced a disaster that took everything you owned, or even just your home or your car, you have some understanding of what this community is living with. It is fully as devastating as Hurricane Sandy, a flood, or a fire. If you have been lucky enough not to experience such a traumatic event, you might be surprised that we're still talking about it today. When I say it is a traumatic event, I can tell you that there are children, adults, and senior citizens who are more than usually alarmed at a loud noise. Seeing empty lots and damaged homes is like a body blow that brings the trauma back in all its horror. There are nightmares, anxieties, and tears, depression and fears that still plague the people of West as a result of this disaster.
Although we cannot help them bear the psychological trauma, we can still make a huge difference. There are many people whose homes were destroyed who are still displaced. Insurance and federal funds together are not enough to replace even a basic home, let alone what was lost. This leaves a huge gap that we can help fill with our combined donations, making reconstruction possible one toilet or piece of plywood at a time. The people of West continue to help themselves as they can. They are slowly rebuilding their town and their lives.
To complete our support efforts, we are reaching out with hope of your compassionate generosity and good will for building materials and financial aid. These generous contributions can fulfill our purpose of bringing people out of the darkness and help them build what was lost in the explosion. The faster resources are available, the sooner victims can put their lives back together.
Your donation to GCD's West Texas Relief is a rewarding effort which provides victims hope for the future and the strength needed to survive tremendous loss. We have also listed the current needs for a victims 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home rebuild.
I would like to thank you in advance for considering a compassionate donation to our mission. Please join us in making our organization a success in delivering aid most needed by making a donation today.
With deepest appreciation,
Meli Farnam, Director/President
